Neal Karlen is a former Newsweek Associate Editor, Rolling Stone Contributing Editor, a regular contributor to the New York Times, and on-air essayist for CBS News. His work has appeared a score of national publications, including the New Yorker, Esquire, GQ, and Slate.  He is author of eight books on topics besides minor league baseball, ranging from rock and roll to vaudeville, from linguistics to religious assimilation. A graduate of Brown University, Neal has taught creative writing at the University of Minnesota. Though he lives in Minneapolis, his heart belongs to St. Paul.
